Boring Weekend Recap; Bucks-Lakers Tonight

AUTHOR: Justin Malaise | IN: Bucks | COMMENTS: 2 Comments |

Saturday

The weekend of the Heisman award is one of the worst weekends of the year.  There are no college football games outside of the Army-Navy game and lower division games.  Coming off of the championship weekend from the week before, this is a big drop-off.  There are some college basketball games, but it is early to get too excited over college basketball.  The sport has created the dilemma of having such a great tourney that the regular season means very little.

Adding to the abrupt end of college football is the fact I live in Wisconsin so it is below zero AND snowing.  I do not mind boring sports Saturdays in July, but December is rough.

Saturday Night

Saturday night  was a different story as it was quite entertaining for the Bucks.  It was a huge win, especially getting it in double overtime.  The Bucks need all the wins at home they can get because it has become quite clear they will get no calls on the road making it tough to break even.

NFL

Last weekend was one of the last weeks where most teams are still trying.  Starting this week you will see more and more players resting from the Colts and Saints moving onto additional teams as they clinch.  The last two weeks of a NFL season usually only have a handful of games with actual interest, hopefully a majority of the playoff races come down to that last weekend so we have more games with intrigue.

Here are my quick thoughts from what I saw:

  • Chargers look like the favorite in the AFC.  They are a tough matchup with Rivers ability to throw deep and the Chargers height at WR.
  • The Cowboys playoff chances hinge on the Saints game.  I actually think Dallas has a great chance against the Saints, mainly because nobody believes in them again.
  • How can anyone trust the Cardinals, including their coach.  When the defense had three offsides on the first 49er possession we all should have been ready for anything.
  • If the Colts sit players the next three weeks and do not attempt to go undefeated then they might as well sit all of the players in the playoffs.  Sitting guys for multiple weeks does not work.  Play all relatively healthy guys until the last game, then sit players in the second half of that game.  I cannot believe my ears when I hear Dungy continue to defend his strategy of sitting guys in past years.
  • Most fantasy playoffs started last weekend and there were some sick performances.  Chris Johnson, Andre Johnson and Brandon Marshall had ridiculous games last weekend and if you were against those guys you were likely in trouble which is why winning a league always comes down to some luck.
  • I get sick to my stomach every time I watch Desean Jackson make a big play, than remind myself that the Packers traded down once and still drafted Jordy Nelson ahead of Jackson.  The Packers passed twice on the best playmaker in the NFL outside of Chris Johnson.
  • The Giants defense SUCKS.
  • The Eagles tackling SUCKS.
  • The NFC playoff teams will be Saints, Vikings, Eagles, Cardinals, Packers, Cowboys(barely)
  • The AFC playoff teams will be Colts, Chargers, Patriots, Bengals, Broncos, Ravens

Bucks-Lakers

This is a very big game for the Bucks tonight.  If the Bucks have any aspirations of being a top 5 seed and be a legit threat in the second round they need to win tonight.  The Lakers are coming off a game from Tuesday at Chicago, Kobe is dinged up, and the Bucks are at home with several days of rest.  This game is setup for a Bucks win, and is also a great example of why teams rarely win over 70 games.  It doesn’t matter how much parity there is or isn’t in the league, when  a team has to face as many disadvantages as the Lakers do tonight, you cannot win them all.

Just finished watching the game, Bucks get hosed at home at will. No way are they calling a charge on Kobe, and as soon as the Bucks gave the ball back you knew Kobe would finish it. Why the hell did they not double him with five seconds left and force someone else to beat them???

Bucks get hosed at home AS WELL, (typo)
